In preparation for our feline friend, John and I bought one of those automatically cleaning kitty litter boxes. It arrived a while ago. (Sorry for the late post.) It is bigger than the average litter box, but the shipping from Amazon was a ton of overpackaging. I took a picture of it next to a full size Rottweiler to give it full effect.
Please post how it actually works for you! I've been putting off buying one because of the price, but if it works I know two cats who will get a late Christmas preseant . . .
Wendy, I ADORE IT!!! This is the first cat I've ever had so I don't know about the traditional litterbox headaches, but this is awesome. We have had multiple people who are very honest come into our home and tell us that they can't tell that we have a cat. The brand of the litterbox is Littermaid and we got the one for multiple cats, though we only have one cat. It's about $220 to buy the box at the Petsmart near us but it was about $80 on Amazon.com. The litter gets scooped into a plastic bin that about twice a week we snap closed (it has grooved teeth so you can completely seal it) and throw away the poop and pee. Replacement plastic bins are also a ton cheaper on Amazon and we followed several user's suggestions to put a little bit of baking soda in the container to further eliminate odor. Just like a normal litterbox some of the wet, finer litter sticks to the bottom and sides so I do have to take the litter scraper thing and dredge up that stuff, but that's not too bad. Overall, I love it and wouldn't buy it in a store, but for the cheap price we found it online it is so worth it. The only hint I have is to underfill it with litter. If you put even the recommended amount of litter in there, ours will sweep up that litter into a big pile that it detects as something that it needs to clean, then the litterbox will scrape, making it into a bigger pile, detect it again, and so on and so forth. I highly recommend it. Our cat is 13 pounds and is tall and long and he fits in it fine. It is such a great invention!
Thank you so much for the feedback! We're in Naples, Italy and they certainly don't sell that here. Animals are barely considered pets - sat but true. I've had cats all my life and litter boxes suck! I scoop every day. My two prissy girls, Oochie and Yak (don't ask), would definatley benifit from this. I'll place my order and let you know how it works. Thanks fellow Jezzie!!!
